Hadith 5077

أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كُنَاسَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ الزُّبَيْرِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " غَيِّرُوا الشَّيْبَ وَلَا تَشَبَّهُوا بِالْيَهُودِ " . وَكِلَاهُمَا غَيْرُ مَحْفُوظٍ .
´It was narrated that Az-Zubair said:` "The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'Change gray hair but do not imitate the Jews.'"

By "hair" is meant all the hair of the head, beard, and mustache; therefore, the ruling applies to all such hair. Also, it should be remembered that, as with other rulings, in this matter as well, women follow the same ruling as men. That is, if women wish to dye their white hair, they too should not dye them with black color, but rather with some other color.
