Hadith 499

´Hamzah Al-'A'idhi said:` "I heard Anas bin Malik say: 'When the Prophet (ﷺ) halted, he would not move on until he had prayed Zuhr.' A man said: 'Even if it was the middle of the day?' He said: 'Even if it was the middle of the day.'"

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
499. Commentary: The meaning is that as soon as the sun would decline (from its zenith), he would perform the Zuhr (noon) prayer. In common parlance, this too is referred to as the time when the sun is still overhead.

1205. Commentary:
This applies in the case when the departure had not taken place before midday (zawal); if they had set out on the journey before midday, then they would delay the Zuhr prayer and combine it with the Asr prayer. Furthermore, this hadith does not mean that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to perform the Zuhr prayer before midday (zawal); rather, it means that as soon as midday (zawal) occurred, he would immediately perform the Zuhr prayer and then commence the journey, because before midday (zawal), the time for Zuhr does not even begin.
