Hadith 4916

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " قَطَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي مِجَنٍّ قِيمَتُهُ خَمْسَةُ دَرَاهِمَ " ، هَذَا الصَّوَابُ .
´It was narrated that Anas said:` "Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, cut off (a thief's hand) for a shield that was worth five Dirhams.

Brief Explanation
1؎: This is an incident in which theft of property worth five dirhams occurred. If it had been less (up to three), even then Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu would have ordered the cutting of the hand, or perhaps the previous hadith had not reached him.

2؎: That is, it is correct that this narration of Anas radi Allahu anhu is mawquf (stopped at the Companion).
