(1) The authenticity of both of the aforementioned narrations as being marfu‘ (attributed directly to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is questionable. The preferred opinion is that this narration is mursal. However, regarding the twelve thousand dirhams, it is authentically reported that Umar radi Allahu anhu, after calculating the value of the camels, fixed the amount at twelve thousand dirhams. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4542) For further details, see: (al-Irwa’: 7/304, Dhakheerat al-‘Uqba Sharh Sunan al-Nasa’i: 36, 186)
(2) The original blood money (diyah) is camels, the details of which have already been mentioned previously. If the diyah is to be given in gold, silver, or coins, then the value of camels with the specified characteristics must be given, which varies according to region and time.

Explanation:
Note:
(The correct view is that this narration is mursal, as explicitly stated by Imam Abu Dawud and the author. Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah, who is more reliable than Muhammad ibn Muslim al-Ta’ifi, also narrated it from ‘Amr ibn Dinar, but he did not mention Ibn ‘Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma). See:
