Hadith 4778

´It was narrated the Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri said:` "While the Messenger of Allah was distributing something, a man came and leaned over him, and the Messenger of Allah hit him with a stick that head with him. The man shouted, and the Messenger of Allah said: 'Come and ask for retaliation. He said: 'No, I pardon you, O Messenger of Allah."'

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
The aforementioned two narrations are weak in terms of their chains of transmission; however, from other evidences it is known that you (the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) never wronged anyone, and if ever you were harsh with someone, you would present yourself for retribution. In one narration, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam pricked Hazrat Usayd bin Hudayr radi Allahu anhu in the side with a stick, so he said: “Let me take retribution.” The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Take it.” He said: “You have a shirt on your body, whereas I did not have a shirt on.” (Upon hearing this) the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam lifted his shirt. Usayd bin Hudayr radi Allahu anhu embraced you in his arms and began to kiss your blessed side, and said: “O Messenger of Allah! This was my only intention.” See: (Sunan Abi Dawud, al-Adab, Chapter: Regarding Kissing the Body, Hadith: 5224)

Benefits and Issues:
This narration is weak in its chain of transmission, but the chapter itself is absolutely authentic: the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to present himself for retribution, as will be mentioned in the upcoming hadith 5224.
