´It was narrated that Abu Qilabah said:` "Abu Al-Malih narrated to me: 'We were with Buraidah on a cloudy day and he said: "Pray early, for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever abandons Salat Al-'Asr, his good deeds will perish.'"

475. Commentary:
➊ On a cloudy day, the sun is not visible, so there is a risk that it might set without one realizing it. Therefore, the ‘Asr prayer should be performed at its earliest time so that delay does not lead to it being missed (qada). In a marfu‘ narration, this matter has been explicitly stated. See: [صحيح البخاري ، مواقيت الصلاة ، حديث : 594]
➋ “His deeds are rendered void.” Some sins become a cause for the nullification (habt) of deeds, such as arguing and raising one’s voice in the presence of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, showing off (riya’), going to astrologers and palmists, etc. However, it is not necessary that all previous deeds are rendered void, because such complete nullification only occurs due to disbelief (kufr) or apostasy (irtidad). In the mentioned hadith, the deed referred to is the one because of which he was occupied and missed the prayer. And the meaning of “rendered void” is that this deed will not benefit him. Or, for some other reason, complete nullification is also possible if he outright denies its obligation. Some have said that these words are intended to emphasize and magnify the gravity of the sin, not their apparent meaning. Although this interpretation is not far-fetched, the aforementioned meaning is closer to the wording.
