Hadith 4655

أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ , عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ , عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ , قَالَ : " تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَدِرْعُهُ مَرْهُونَةٌ عِنْدَ يَهُودِيٍّ بِثَلَاثِينَ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ لِأَهْلِهِ " .
´It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said:` "The Messenger of Allah died when his shield was in pledge with a Jew for thirty Sa's of barley for his family

The detailed discussion of this hadith has already passed earlier. See: (Hadith: 4614) The intention of the Imam (rahimahullah) is that commercial relations can be established with non-Muslim people. Transactions and business dealings can be conducted with them. Although only the People of the Book are mentioned in the chapter heading, what is meant is all, both Muslims and non-Muslims. The People of the Book refers to Jews and Christians, because the heavenly books, the Torah and the Gospel, were revealed to them.
