Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Imam al-Nasa’i rahimahullah narrated this report from two teachers: one is Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and the other is Ya’qub ibn Ibrahim. Both teachers narrate the entire report in the same manner, but the phrase “wa’sh-sha’iru bi’sh-sha’iri” (and barley for barley) is mentioned only by the teacher Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna; the other teacher did not mention this phrase.

(2) The name of one of the teachers who narrated the aforementioned report is given as Ya’qub ibn Ibrahim in Sunan al-Nasa’i. In all manuscripts of Sunan al-Nasa’i (al-Mujtaba), this is the name mentioned, but this is incorrect. The correct name is “Ibrahim ibn Ya’qub al-Jawzajani.” However, it should be remembered that one of Imam al-Nasa’i’s teachers is also Ya’qub ibn Ibrahim al-Dawraqi, but the aforementioned report is not narrated by him; rather, it is narrated by Ibrahim ibn Ya’qub al-Jawzajani. All of this clarification has been stated by Hafiz al-Mizzi rahimahullah in Tuhfat al-Ashraf. See: (Tuhfat al-Ashraf: 4/450). For further details, see: (Dhakhirat al-‘Uqba Sharh Sunan al-Nasa’i by al-Atbubi: 34/362).
