Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Selling dates in exchange for dates with an increase or decrease is prohibited. Furthermore, this hadith shows that the ruler of the time should be aware of the conditions of his subjects and those under his authority; he should be mindful of their interests and give them special attention.

(2) From this blessed hadith, it is also understood that when the Imam or a responsible person hears of something that is permissible according to Shariah, or sees something or a matter that is prohibited according to Shariah, he should not only prevent those engaging in the prohibited act but should also guide them towards the truth.

(3) This blessed hadith is an explicit proof of this important issue that a solitary report (khabar wahid) is a valid proof in Shariah.

(4) “Pure usury” (ayn riba) means absolute usury, because when both sides are of the same kind, any increase or decrease in the transaction is usury.
