Hadith 452

´It was narrated that 'Abdullah said:` "When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was taken on the Night Journey, he came to Sidrah Al-Muntaha, which is in the sixth heaven. That is where everything that comes up from below ends, and where everything that comes down from above, until it is taken from it. Allah says: When what covered the lote-tree did cover it! [1] He said: "It was moths of gold. And I was given three things: The five daily prayers, the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and whoever of my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah will be forgiven for Al-Muqhimat." [2] [1] An-Najm 53:16. [2] "The sins of the worst magnitude that drag one into the Fire." (An-Nihayah)

452. Commentary:

➊ The mention of Buraq is found in the narrations of the Mi'raj only up to Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem), which is why it is said that the journey from Bayt al-Maqdis onwards to the heavens took place through a ladder-like thing called "Mi'raj," but there is no clear evidence for this. And Allah knows best.

➋ The presence of all the Prophets (alayhim as-salam) in Bayt al-Maqdis to welcome you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and your leading them in prayer, is a great honor for you, which was not granted to any other Prophet. Apparently, the Prophets (alayhim as-salam) were present physically, not just spiritually, just as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) went physically to Bayt al-Maqdis and the heavens. The bodies of the deceased Prophets (alayhim as-salam) are also preserved by Allah Ta'ala.
If the Prophets (alayhim as-salam) were brought only spiritually, even then it does not affect the significance of the event. In any case, this matter pertains to the Barzakh, which is beyond human comprehension.

➌ In general hadiths, only the reaching of Sidrat al-Muntaha is mentioned, but in a narration of the two Sahihs (al-Sahihayn), there is mention of your (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) ascent to another place, from where you also heard the sound of the pens.
However, the name of this place has not been mentioned.

➍ The revelation of the last verses of Surah al-Baqarah is, by consensus, Madinan, while the event of Mi'raj is Makkan. The meaning of the last verses of Surah al-Baqarah being given during Mi'raj is that the promise of granting these verses was made, while their actual revelation took place later in Madinah. And Allah knows best.

➎ There will be two forms of forgiveness for major sins (kaba'ir): Whomever Allah Ta'ala wills, He will forgive by His grace and mercy in the first stage itself and admit him to Paradise, because for some, even without repentance, major sins will be forgiven; otherwise, after suffering punishment in Hell, then forgiveness will be granted.

Benefits and Issues:
(1)
Sidrat al-Muntaha extends from the sixth heaven up to above the seventh heaven;
its roots are on the sixth heaven and its branches are on the seventh.

(2)
Due to the firmness of faith and good deeds of some people, all their sins will be forgiven;
this is the grace and favor of Allah, or after punishment proportionate to their crimes and sins, their sins will be finished and then they will enter Paradise.
