´It was narrated that Safwan bin Umayyah said:` "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, they are saying that no one will enter Paradise except a Muhajir."' He said: "There is no more emigration (Hijrah) after the Conquest of Makkah, rather there is Jihad and intention. When you are called to moblize (for Jihad) then do so."
1؎ : In the blessed era of the Prophet Akram sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, this ruling was specific to the people of Makkah—that now there was no longer any need to migrate from Makkah to Madinah. Otherwise, in any other situation where similar circumstances arise, migration (hijrah) will be obligatory (see Hadith number 4177), except in cases where the national conditions and laws of the land do not permit it. For example, in this era, it is not even possible—rather, it is impossible—for a citizen of one country to be accepted by another country. So, even though migration is obligatory, a person is compelled to remain in his homeland; this is a state of compulsion.
2؎ : That is, leaving one’s home and belongings for the sake of jihad is also a kind of migration (hijrah). Similarly, going far from home with sincerity of intention solely to attain the pleasure of Allah—for example, for religious education and the like—is also a kind of migration.
