English Translation:

“The shepherds”: Out of the twenty narrations mentioned, in one or two the word for plural is used. In all the remaining narrations, only a single shepherd is mentioned. This is what is correct. In cases of disagreement, decisions are made on the basis of the strongest evidence. Imam al-Nasa’i rahimahullah has mentioned this narration twenty times so that all the details related to the incident may be known and nothing remains hidden, and also so that if there is any discrepancy, it becomes clear. Although the main objective of the Imam is to mention the differences in the chains of transmission (isnad), which requires a careful examination of the chain. Some narrators relate the narration as connected (muttasil), while others as disconnected (munqati‘), etc. Some mention the name of one Companion (sahabi), while others mention another. After examining the actual state of affairs, a decision of preference and precedence is made.
