´It was narrated from Abu Salamah bin 'Abdur-Rahman that 'Uthman looked out over them when they besieged him and said:` "By Allah, I adjure a man who heard the Messenger of Allah, on the day when the mountain shook with him, and he kicked it with his foot and said: 'Be still, for there is no one upon you but a Prophet or a Siddiq or two martyrs,' and I was with him." Some men responded and affirmed that. Then he said: "By Allah, I adjure a man who witnessed the Messenger of Allah, on the day of Bai'at Al-Ridwan, say: 'This is the Hand of Allah and this is the hand of 'Uthman.'" Some men responded and affirmed that. He said: "By Allah, I adjure a man who heard the Messenger of Allah say, on the day of the army of Al-'Usrah (i.e. Tabuk): 'Who will spend and it will be accepted?' And I equipped half of the army from my own wealth." Some men responded and affirmed that. Then he said: "By Allah, I adjure a man who heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Who will add to this Masjid in return for a house in Paradise,' and I bought it with my own wealth." Some men responded and affirmed that. Then he said: "By Allah, I adjure a man who witness Rumah being sold, and I bought it from my own wealth and allowed wayfarers to use it." Some men responded and affirmed that.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) The purpose of presenting these evidences by Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) was not any pride, ostentation, or seeking praise, but rather, at this delicate moment, he wanted to firmly establish that he was upon the truth and the rebels were upon falsehood. In this regard, the statements of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are clear. However, these had no effect on the rebels because inwardly they were enemies of Islam and wanted to bring an end to the caliphate.
(2) Striking his foot upon the mountain and addressing it was an expression of his miraculous status from Allah Ta’ala, the real purpose of which was to inform those individuals of their virtues and merits, and also to make a public declaration before the world. And Allah knows best.
(3) “Bay‘at al-Ridwan” is that pledge through which those who pledged allegiance attained the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala, and its announcement was formally made in the Noble Qur’an. This incident occurred during the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah when the rumor of the martyrdom of Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) spread.
(4) “This is the hand of Allah and this is Uthman’s.” Since Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) was not present at the time, and the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not know that Uthman was alive, he placed one of his own hands over the other, considering one as the hand of Allah Ta’ala, because this pledge was being taken by the command of Allah Ta’ala. It is also mentioned in the Noble Qur’an: ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُبَايِعُونَكَ إِنَّمَا يُبَايِعُونَ اللَّهَ يَدُ اللَّهِ فَوْقَ أَيْدِيهِمْ﴾ (al-Fath 48:10). In this, the greatness and status of Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is clearly manifested.
(5) “Half the army”—that is, in the preparation of this army, his contribution was very significant, the details of which are not mentioned.
