´It was narrated that Salamah bin Nufail Al-Kindi said:` "I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah when a man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! The people have lost interest in horses and put down their weapons, and they say there is no Jihad, and that war has ended.' The Messenger of Allah turned to face him and said: 'They are lying, now the fighting is to come. There will always be a group among my Ummah who will fight for the truth, for whom Allah will cause some people to deviate, and grant them provision from them, until the Hour begins and until the promise of Allah comes. Goodness is tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection. It has been revealed to me that I am going to die and will not stay long, and you will follow me group after group, striking one another's necks. And the place of safety for the believers is Ash-Sham.'"
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) "The war has ended" because the Arabian Peninsula has been purified of polytheism and the House of Allah (Baytullah) has come under the control of the Muslims.
(2) "Now jihad has begun"—until now, jihad was within their own territory. Jihad in foreign lands is only now about to begin. Or, it may mean that jihad has only recently been made obligatory, so how can it end so soon?
(3) "Goodness" refers to honor, prestige, awe, reward, and spoils of war, etc.
(4) "It will be Syria"—some narrations also indicate that near the end of times, the region of Syria (Sham) will be a place of conquest for the believers. There will be no fighting in Mecca or Madinah. In this hadith, there is an indication that, during times of tribulation, Syria will be a place of peace and safety for the people of Islam.
(5) This hadith establishes the superiority of horses kept for jihad over other animals, because no other animal's virtue is established in this way. Also, the wealth acquired through such horses is among the best of wealth.
(6) In this, there is the glad tidings of the survival of Islam, jihad, and the people of Islam until the Day of Judgment, and also mention of the prophecy of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) regarding fighting among the Muslims themselves.
