Hadith 3555

´It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah said:` "It is not permissible for a woman to mourn for anyone who dies for more than three days, except for her husband."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
“She has faith”: The rulings of the Shari‘ah are only for those who have faith. For those who do not have faith in Allah and the Last Day, the very concept of good, evil, sin, and reward is meaningless. The mention of the woman is according to the context of the discourse; otherwise, this ruling applies to men in the same way. However, for them, mourning over a wife is only for the usual period and is not obligatory. (For details, see Hadith: 3531)

Benefits and Issues:

➋ One should abandon adornment for three days as an expression of grief.

➌ In the case of the husband's death, one must avoid adornment for the entire period of ‘iddah.
