أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ شَاهِينٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ ، عَنْ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ، عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ حَضْرَمَوْتَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلِيًّا عَلَى الْيَمَنِ ، فَأُتِيَ بِغُلَامٍ تَنَازَعَ فِيهِ ثَلَاثَةٌ ، وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ , خَالَفَهُمْ سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ ،
´It was narrated from a man from Hadramawt, that Zaid bin Arqam said:` "The Messenger of Allah sent 'Ali to (be the governor of) Yemen, and a child was brought to him concerning whom three men were disputing." Then he quoted the same Hadith. Salamah bin Kuhail contradicted them.

(1) There are four individuals who have narrated this hadith from Imam Sha’bi rahimahullah: Salih Hamdani, Ajlah, Abu Ishaq Shaybani, and Salamah ibn Kuhayl. Imam al-Nasa’i rahimahullah states that among the students of Imam Sha’bi, Salamah ibn Kuhayl has opposed the other three students, namely Salih Hamdani, Ajlah, and Shaybani. And this opposition is of two types: firstly, Salih Hamdani, Ajlah, and Shaybani have mentioned Zayd ibn Arqam radi Allahu anhu in the chain of narration, whereas Salamah ibn Kuhayl has not mentioned him. The second difference is that these three have narrated this report as marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), whereas Salamah ibn Kuhayl has not narrated it as marfu‘. And Allah knows best.
