Hadith 3412

Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I was searching for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so I put my hand into his hair. He said: “Your devil has come to you.” I asked: “Do you not have a devil?” He replied: “Why not? By Allah, but Allah Almighty has protected me from him, so I am safe from him.”

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) At night, the houses used to be dark. There was no arrangement for lighting. When Aisha (radi Allahu anha) did not feel you (the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) nearby, she began to move her hands here and there in order to feel for you. She was overcome by a suspicion that perhaps you had gotten up and gone to the house of another wife. That is why you mentioned Satan, because this suspicion was from Satan.

(2) "Why not"—By nature, every human being possesses the capacity for sin. In the Noble Qur’an it is stated: ﴿فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا﴾ (: ash-Shams 91:8). He (man) is a target for satanic whispers, and it is possible for him to make mistakes, except for those whom Allah, the Exalted, protects—just as Allah, the Exalted, completely protected the Prophets (alayhim as-salam), and especially the Seal of the Prophets, from satanic influences. This is also the meaning of their being infallible (ma‘sum).

(3) "I am protected"—Some scholars have interpreted this in the past tense: "My Satan has become obedient to me," therefore he does not have the power to lead me astray from the right path. And Allah knows best.
