‘Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I have not seen any woman who could cook food like Umm al-Mu’minin Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her). She sent a dish to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in which there was food. I could not control myself and I broke the dish. Then I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about its expiation, so he said: “A dish like the (broken) dish and food like the (spilled) food.”

Urdu footnote:
"Food in exchange for food" applies if the food has been spoiled. Some foods are spoiled when the dish breaks, while others are not. From the incident mentioned in Hadith:3407, it is understood that the food was not spoiled, because later there is mention of eating the food, and moreover, that food was sent for the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). In the case of spoilage, whether you take compensation or not is up to you. The food was not to be sent back.
