“Ten uqiyah”—above, twelve and a half uqiyah has been mentioned. Whether a fraction has been omitted, or generally the dowry (mahr) was this much. Due to the distinction of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), your mahr was five hundred dirhams. Ten uqiyah equals four hundred dirhams. This is not the fixed amount of mahr, but rather, according to that era, this was an appropriate mahr in their society. According to each era, there will continue to be increase or decrease in this amount.
