´Zainab bint Abu Salamah narrated that her mother Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet, used to say:` "The rest of the wives of the Prophet refused for anyone to enter upon them on the basis of that type of breast-feeding, meaning breast-feeding of an adult. They said to 'Aishah: 'By Allah, we think that this is a concession which the Messenger of Allah granted only to Salim. No one will enter upon us, nor see us on the basis of this type of breast-feeding.'"

The above two hadiths express the viewpoint of the noble wives of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and this is also the opinion of the majority of scholars. However, the position of Aisha (radi Allahu anha) was that this is a specific ruling, which is permissible to act upon in such particular circumstances as those faced by Sahla (radi Allahu anha). Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) and many other scholars also hold the view of permissibility of adult suckling (ridā‘at kabīr) in exceptional cases.
