Hadith 3254

´Anas bin Malik said:` Zainab bint Jahsh used to boast to the other wives of the Prophet and say: "Allah married me to him from above the Heavens." And the Verse of Hijab was revealed concerning her.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) The apparent words of the Noble Qur’an, ﴿زَوَّجْنَاكَهَا﴾, indicate that her marriage did not take place on earth; rather, the marriage was contracted by these very words of Allah, the Exalted. Furthermore, there is no explicit mention of a separate marriage ceremony for her. In this regard, it was indeed a legitimate point of pride for Hazrat Zayd (radi Allahu anhu) that his marriage was conducted in the heavens, whereas the marriages of the other wives were performed by their guardians according to their own wishes. And this is, in reality, a matter of pride.

(2) The “verse of veiling” refers to the verse from Surah al-Ahzab: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَدْخُلُوا بُيُوتَ النَّبِيِّ .....﴾ (al-Ahzab: 33:53).
