´Narrated Abu Hurairah:` It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "A man proposed to a woman from among the Ansar and the Messenger of Allah said to him: 'Have you seen her?' He said: 'No.' So he told him to look at her."
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
It is prohibited to look at a woman for the sake of pleasure. It is not prohibited in case of necessity. Marriage is an important necessity, and since it is a companionship for a lifetime, it is appropriate to see her beforehand in order to avoid any possible unpleasantness. However, this does not mean that one should go to her house and make a demand; rather, one should see her through some pretext or excuse. Alternatively, the matter of seeing and showing, as well as obtaining other necessary information, can be resolved through the women of the household.
