Hadith 3233

´Narrated Abu Hurairah:` It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "It was said to the Messenger of Allah: 'Which woman is best?' He said: 'The one who makes him happy when he looks at her, obeys him when he commands her, and she does not go against his wishes with regard to herself nor her wealth.'"

English Translation:

A society cannot remain peaceful without harmony between husband and wife. If both have equal status, the possibility of harmony is greatly diminished; therefore, the wife has been made subordinate to the husband, because the superiority of the man, or rather the male, is established both by nature and by practice. Thus, the best wife is she who remains obedient to her husband so that this society may become like a paradise. In societies where men and women have equal status, social unrest and marital discord are widespread. Love and respect between husband, wife, and parents are absent, which are the foundation of peace and tranquility.
