´Narrated Abu Salamah:` It was narrated from Abu Salamah that Abu Hurairah said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a young man and I fear hardship for myself, but I cannot afford to marry; should I castrate myself?'" The Prophet turned away from him until he said it three times. Then the Prophet said: "O Abu Hurairah, the pen is dried concerning what you are going to face, so (it is up to you whether) you castrate yourself or not." Abu Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasai) said: Al-Awzai did not hear this narration from Az-Zuhri, and this hadith is sahih, Yunus reported it from Az-Zuhri.
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) That is, this narration is disconnected (munqati‘) through the chain of al-Awza‘i, but it is authentic (sahih) through the chain of Yunus.
(2) The meaning of your statement is that Allah Ta‘ala also has knowledge of your future actions which will inevitably occur, so what benefit is there for you in committing a forbidden act like castration? It is better that you supplicate to Allah Ta‘ala for abundance and strive to avoid sin. The final words of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), “Whether he becomes a eunuch or not,” are not for granting permission, but rather express anger and rebuke, and this is a common idiom. His turning away is a clear proof of this.
