´It was narrated from Ibn Abi 'Amirah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` "There is no Muslim soul among the people that is taken by its Lord and wishes it could come back to you, even if it had this world and everything in it, except the martyr." Ibn Abi 'Amirah said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'If I were to be killed in the cause of Allah, that would be dearer to me that if all the people of the deserts and the cities were to be mine.'"[1] [1] Meaning: If they were all my slaves and I set them free.
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) "A Muslim person"—because he will be happy and content in the presence of Allah Ta'ala; however, the disbeliever and the hypocrite will make requests to be sent back so that they may make amends for their sins, but their request will not be accepted.
(2) "Except the martyr (shaheed)"—because he will see the reward of martyrdom and will wish that he be given another opportunity to return so that he may attain martyrdom again and achieve an even higher rank. This desire of the martyr is not for the attainment of worldly life, but rather for the attainment of martyrdom.
(3) "Become slaves"—as if even the reward for freeing so many slaves cannot reach the virtue of martyrdom. Or, it may mean worldly kingship, i.e., I do not desire the kingship of all the Bedouins and city-dwellers, because ultimately this is perishable, whereas the reward of martyrdom will remain and endure forever.
