´It was narrated from 'Ubadah bin As-Samit that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` "Whoever fights seeking only an 'Iqbal, then he will have what he intended."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
“According to the intention” — that is, he will not receive any reward in the Hereafter because he did not intend it. As for worldly wealth, it is possible that he may receive it, and it is also possible that he may not receive it; neither did he attain Allah, nor union with the beloved. However, if one performs jihad with sincerity of intention, and spoils of war (ghanimah) are not his objective but he still receives them, no matter how much he receives, it is not harmful; rather, it is a blessing from Allah, the Exalted.
