Hadith 3133

´It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` "O Abu Sa'eed! Whoever is content with Allah as Lord, Islam as his religion and Muhammad as Prophet, then he is guaranteed Paradise." Abu Sa'eed found this amazing and said: "Say it to me again, O Messenger of Allah." So he did that, then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "And there is something else by means of which a person may be raised one hundred degrees in Paradise, each of which is like that which is between the Heaven and the Earth." He said: "What is it, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Jihad in the cause of Allah, Jihad in the cause of Allah."

Brief Explanation
1؎: "Rabb" is among the Most Beautiful Names (Asma’ al-Husna) of Allah Ta'ala, the meaning of which is: the One who, after creating everything, provides for its needs and brings it to completion. Its usage without any addition (idafah) is not permissible for anyone other than the Essence of Allah. And it is precisely this Lordship (rububiyyah) that necessitates that a person worships only and exclusively Allah Ta'ala, because He alone, the Exalted and Holy, is worthy of worship. Here, the meaning and implication of accepting "Rabb" is to specify all forms of worship exclusively for this Rabb, because the polytheists (mushrikin) of Arabia and elsewhere had no objection in accepting Allah as the Creator, Owner, and Lord of the universe; their real malady was that, while accepting Allah as Rabb, Creator, and Owner, they associated others with Him in worship.

2؎: Accepting Islam as a religion means that, apart from the way of Islam, one does not adopt any other way in one's life.

3؎: Accepting Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as a Prophet means that one gives precedence to his (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) commands and prohibitions over everything else, and in every minor and major matter, accepts his ruling without any debate or objection.

4؎: Provided that he has not mixed it with shirk (polytheism), innovations (bid‘ah), nor has he fallen into evil deeds.
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
“They seemed very strange” because, apparently, Paradise has been promised for something easy, although in reality this is a very difficult task, because knowledge of contentment (rida) will be determined by actions. And providing proof of faith through actions itself is a difficult task. Another meaning could be that “they seemed very excellent,” because for the believer this is a tremendous glad tidings.
