Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
If the gathering is large, it is necessary to ascend a high place in order to convey the voice to everyone. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) performed almost the entire Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wada') while mounted on a camel so that people could see him and learn the rites of Hajj. In the case of the sermon (khutbah), it is even more necessary to be mounted on a camel.

Benefit:
The aforementioned narration has been declared weak by our esteemed researcher, and he has further written that supporting evidence for some parts of this hadith is found in Abu Dawud.
However, other scholars have declared it authentic.
For details, see: (al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah, Musnad al-Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal: 19, 18/31 and Sunan Ibn Majah by Dr. Bashar ‘Awwad, Hadith: 1286)
Therefore, the issue mentioned in the narration is, in itself, correct.
And Allah knows best.
