English Translation:

Running in the low-lying area between Safa and Marwah is a Sunnah, not an obligation (fard). If a person does not have the strength, or due to crowding it is not possible to run, then there is no harm. Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu), due to old age, did not have the strength to run, so he would walk in the place designated for running. Nowadays, the area for running has been marked clearly with the help of green lights. In the beginning, there was a specific reason for running, but later it was made a permanent part of the circumambulation (tawaf).
