´It was narrated that 'Aishah said:` "I used to scrape the Janabah." On another occasion she said: "The semen from the garment of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)."
Brief Explanation
1؎ : This narration indicates that it is not obligatory to wash semen (mani) from clothing; if it is dry, scraping or rubbing it off, and if it is wet, cleaning it with something, suffices to purify the garment. There is a difference of opinion among the scholars regarding whether semen is pure or impure. According to Imam Shafi‘i, Dawud al-Zahiri, and Imam Ahmad, semen is pure; it is like saliva from the mouth. Among the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in), this is also the view of ‘Ali, Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas, Ibn ‘Umar, and Umm al-Mu’minin ‘A’ishah (radi Allahu anhum). In contrast, Imam Malik and Imam Abu Hanifah say that semen is impure. However, according to Imam Abu Hanifah, if semen is dry, scraping it off suffices for purification; washing is not necessary. In contrast, according to Imam Malik, whether it is dry or wet, washing is necessary in both cases. The evidence for those who consider semen pure are the narrations about scraping; they say that if semen were impure, it would be necessary to wash it after scraping. Those who consider it impure base their view on narrations that command washing; they say that if semen were pure, there would be no need to wash it. However, those who consider it pure respond that washing the garment is for cleanliness, not because of impurity.
2؎ : Apparently, there is a contradiction between the above narration and this narration. Reconciliation is made in such a way that the «فرک» (rubbing and scraping) narrations are applied to dry semen, because when semen is wet, it cannot be cleaned by rubbing, and the narrations about washing apply to wet semen.

Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
297. Commentary: Thus, semen (mani) is not something like urine or feces such that every trace of it must be removed from the garment; rather, the garment should be rubbed together or it should be scraped off—whatever falls off, falls off, and whatever remains within the fibers of the cloth, there is no harm in it. This hadith supports the position of Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma) and those who agree with him, that is, those who hold the view of the purity (taharah) of semen (mani).
