(1) The difference is that Hasan bin Muslim narrated this report as marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), whereas Hanzalah bin Abu Sufyan narrated it as mawquf (stopped at the Companion).
(2) “From such a person”—from the following narration it becomes clear that this person is Abdullah bin Umar radi Allahu anhu.
(3) “Like the prayer”—in both, there is the remembrance of Allah. Both are a means for the forgiveness of sins. The greeting (tahiyyah) of circumambulation (tawaf) of the House of Allah is allowed in cases of compulsion and necessity, and this is a favor from Allah, the Exalted. Sometimes, “qillat” also comes in the meaning of “adam” (absence), i.e., do not speak. The intent is unnecessary speech. From this, it is understood that tawaf is not exactly like prayer; rather, in some rulings, they differ from each other. For example, in prayer, speech is not permitted, but in tawaf it is allowed. Similarly, regarding the issue of purification (taharah): if ablution (wudu) breaks during prayer, the entire prayer must be repeated, but in tawaf, this is not the case. Rather, if ablution breaks during tawaf, one should perform ablution and then resume tawaf from where it was left off, or after completing the tawaf, perform ablution and then offer two units (rak‘ah) of prayer. And Allah knows best.
