Hadith Commentary:
Ibn Abd al-Barr said: There is consensus among the scholars that killing a lizard is permissible in both the state of ihram (during pilgrimage) and outside of it. And Allah knows best.

Hafiz said: Ibn Abd al-Hakim narrated from Imam Malik the opposite view, that if a person in the state of ihram kills a lizard, he should give charity, because it is not among those five animals whose killing is permitted. And Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated from Ata that it can be analogized with the scorpion and similar creatures, and thus it can also be said that killing it is permissible both in the sacred precinct (haram) and outside of it.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The fact that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) declared it harmful is an indication that it is permissible to kill it. The fact that Aisha (radi Allahu anha) did not hear this from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) cannot serve as evidence for prohibition, since Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) ordered the killing of the lizard, as Imam al-Bukhari (rahimahullah) himself has narrated this report.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of the Beginning of Creation, Hadith: 3306)
Umm Sharik (radi Allahu anha) has also narrated from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) the command to kill it, and he explained the reason that the lizard blew on the fire to intensify it for Ibrahim (alayhis salam).
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Stories of the Prophets, Hadith: 3359)
Rather, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) even gave glad tidings of reward for killing it.
The Prophetic instruction is:
“Whoever kills a lizard with the first strike will receive one hundred good deeds.” (Sahih Muslim, Book of Peace, Hadith: 5847(2240))

Ibn Abd al-Barr (rahimahullah) has transmitted consensus (ijma’) that it is permissible to kill the lizard in both the Haram and non-Haram areas, but when Ata ibn Abi Rabah was asked about killing a lizard in the Haram, he replied:
If it harms you, then there is no objection to killing it.
This means that he considered its killing to be conditional upon its causing harm.
(Fath al-Bari: 4/54)
