Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) The issue of cupping has already been discussed above. A person in the state of ihram may undergo cupping (hijamah) in case of necessity; inevitably, in such a situation, some hair may also need to be cut. In view of the necessity, there is no harm in this, nor is any expiation (fidya) required for it. For details, refer to the benefit of Hadith: 2848.

(2) "Lahyi Jamal" is a place located between Makkah al-Mukarramah and Madinah al-Munawwarah.

Hadith Commentary:
This location is between Makkah and Madinah.
This hadith also establishes that, in case of necessity, a person in the state of ihram may undergo cupping (hijamah). Contemporary surgical procedures, in cases of severe necessity, may also be analogized to this ruling.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah previously narrated from Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu that a person in the state of ihram may smell flowers, look in a mirror, and use olive oil and ghee as medicine.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Hajj, Chapter: 18)
(2)
From this hadith, it is understood that a person in ihram may undergo cupping (hijama) when needed, because the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had cupping performed due to pain in his blessed head.
If shaving the head is required for cupping, then offering a fidya (compensatory sacrifice) becomes obligatory.
Tabari has narrated that if a person in ihram gets a wound on his head, he may have the hair around the wound removed and may also apply medicine to it, provided that it does not contain fragrance. Furthermore, it is permissible for a person in ihram to have blood drawn, undergo surgery, have a vein cut, or have a tooth extracted, provided that he does not commit any prohibited act, such as applying fragrance, etc.
(Fath al-Bari: 4/67)
(3)
It should be noted that Lahi Jamal is the name of a place between Makkah and Madinah, which is near Madinah Tayyibah.

Hadith Commentary:

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Out of necessity, a person in the state of ihram may have cupping (hijama) performed by consensus. If, in the process of cupping, hair needs to be cut, then by consensus, expiation (fidyah) is required.
➋ According to Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah, a compensatory sacrifice (dam) is required, while according to his two companions (the Sahibayn), charity (sadaqah) suffices. If no hair is broken, then there is no fidyah.
➌ If one has cupping done without necessity and no hair is broken, then according to the majority, it is permissible.
➍ However, according to Imam Malik rahimahullah, it is disliked (makruh).

Benefits and Issues:
➊ If there is pain in any part of the body, it can be treated with cupping (hijamah).

➋ It is prohibited to shave the head while in the state of ihram. However, in case of illness, it is permissible to have the hair shaved. But in that case, one must offer expiation (fidyah). The amount of fidyah is: sacrificing one goat, or fasting for three days, or giving half a sa‘ (approximately 1.5 kg) of grain to six needy people.

➌ The reason the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had cupping (hijamah) done on this occasion was due to migraine pain. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Medicine, Chapter: Cupping for Migraine and Headache, Hadith: 5700)
