´It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said:` "The Messenger of Allah forbade the Muhrim to wear clothes dyed with saffron or Wars."
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
Commentary in English:
The use of fragrance is prohibited for a person in the state of ihram; saffron is also a fragrance, therefore, garments dyed with it are also prohibited. However, this ruling applies only during the state of ihram. Fragrance may be applied before entering ihram. Afterwards, if its effects do not wear off, there is no harm. Wars is a fragrant grass. From this, it is understood that a person in ihram may wear colored ihram garments. Nevertheless, plain and white garments are more appropriate for ihram. However, a woman may wear garments of any color, provided they are not dyed with saffron or wars.

Hadith Commentary:
The restriction for the muhrim (one in the state of ihram) indicates that it is permissible for a non-muhrim to wear clothing dyed with wars or saffron. Accordingly, Imam Malik rahimahullah says that saffron-dyed clothing is permissible for a non-muhrim, although Imam Shafi'i rahimahullah and the scholars of Kufa do not permit saffron-dyed clothing in any circumstance.
(Fath al-Bari: 10/376)
However, from a hadith narrated from Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu, its permissibility is understood.
He used to dye his beard with saffron to such an extent that even his clothes would become filled with this color.
When he was asked about this, he replied:
I saw the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam dyeing with this color.
Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu was very fond of this color; he would dye all his clothes, even his turban, with it.

Benefits and Issues:
➊
It is prohibited for a man to wear sewn clothing while in the state of ihram.
➋
By "sewn," it is meant clothing that is tailored to fit the shape of the body, such as:
shirt and trousers, undershirt, sweater, etc.
If a piece of the unsewn sheet is small and a similar piece is stitched to it so that, according to the body's need, a larger sheet is made, then this is not considered sewn clothing.
➌
"Burnus" refers to a garment that also has something to cover the head,
as is found in a raincoat.
➍
Although a turban is not sewn clothing, its use is also prohibited for men; therefore, the use of a cap is even more clearly prohibited.
➎
Carrying a bundle, etc., on the head is not considered wearing, so it is not prohibited.
➏
"Waras" is a plant.
Nawab Waheeduz-Zaman Khan has translated it as "sticks of sanga."
It is used to dye cloth.
Clothes dyed with saffron and waras acquire fragrance.
Therefore, it is prohibited to wear such clothing in ihram.
