Hadith 2595

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ شَابُورَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ سَأَلَ وَلَهُ أَرْبَعُونَ دِرْهَمًا فَهُوَ الْمُلْحِفُ " .
´It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, that his grandfather said:` "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever asks when he has forty Dirhams I being too demanding when asking."'

The purpose of the comparison is to indicate impermissibility, meaning that it is not permissible to ask for it. In this narration, forty dirhams have been mentioned as the threshold of sufficiency (ghina). This is according to the circumstances of that time. There can be an increase or decrease in this amount according to the prevailing conditions.
