´Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif said:` concerning the Verse in which Allah, the Mighty and Subline, says: And do not aim at that which is bad to spend from it." [2] This refers to had quality dates. The Messenger of Allah forbade taking bad quality dates as Sadaqah.
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
English Translation:
Ja’rur and lawn habiq are inferior types of dates. They were small dates that had no value. However, it is to be noted that if the entire produce is of this type, then obviously the same will be given as zakat. The meaning of the hadith is that if the produce contains good quality or mixed types of dates, then inferior dates should not be taken as zakat; rather, zakat should be given according to the quality of the produce, so that neither the public treasury (bayt al-mal) nor the owner suffers any loss.
