Hadith 2438

´Bahz bin Hakim narrated from his father, that his grandfather said:` "I said: 'O Prophet of Allah, I did not come to you until I had sworn more than this many times" the number of fingers on his hands "that I would never come to you or follow your religion. I am a man who does not know anything except that which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and His Messenger teach me. I ask you by the Revelation of Allah, with what has your Lord sent your to us? He said: "With Islam.' I said: 'What are the signs of Islam?' He said: 'To say, I submit my face to Allah and give up Shirk, and to establish the Salah and to pay the Zakah."'

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) The name of the Companion (Sahabi) who narrated the hadith is Mu'awiyah bin Haydah al-Qushayri radi Allahu anhu.
(2) "That you say..."—by this is meant the testimony of faith (kalimat ash-shahadatayn), or it refers to firmness upon monotheism (tawhid), because he would have already recited the testimony of faith (kalimat ash-shahadatayn) previously. The fact that he addressed you as the Prophet of Allah is evidence of this.
(3) It is obligatory upon every Muslim to disavow and renounce all matters and things that are contrary to Islam.

“Join the Muslims.” That is, perform hijrah (migration). In the time of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, it was necessary to consolidate the strength of the Muslims, and there was such enmity with the disbelievers that it was impossible for both to live together and practice the religion; therefore, hijrah was obligatory. When Islam spread and disbelief receded, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam announced that there was no longer any need to migrate from Makkah. Thus, hijrah is not an inherent requirement of Islam, but its ruling will be determined by assessing the circumstances. It is neither permissible to reside in every land of disbelief (dar al-kufr), nor is migration obligatory from every land of disbelief.

Benefits and Issues:
(1)
What is meant by changing the religion is leaving Islam and adopting another religion.
If a Jew becomes a Christian or a Magian becomes a Jew, this is not included in it.

(2)
There is room for repentance for the apostate.
If he repents and severs his ties with the disbelievers, his repentance is accepted; in this case, he will not be given the death penalty.
