´Usamah bin Zaid said:` "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I do not see you fasting any month as much as Shaban.' He said: 'That is a month to which people do not pay much attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I am fasting."'

(1) The sanctity of both the months of Rajab and Ramadan al-Mubarak was well established. Rajab, because it is included among the sacred months, and Ramadan al-Mubarak due to the fasting observed in it. People used to perform many virtuous deeds in these two months. Sha’ban was considered an empty month, although it has its own merit which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has described.
(2) “Deeds are presented.” Deeds are, in fact, presented every day at the times of morning and afternoon, and every week on Monday and Thursday as well. Thus, this is an annual presentation, and all the deeds of the year are presented in a general manner. The wisdom behind these presentations is known only to Allah, the Exalted. Indeed, Allah, the Exalted, is personally and perfectly aware of all deeds.
(3) “I am fasting.” Because fasting (sawm) is the most virtuous act of worship. For this reason, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays.
