Hadith 2305

´It was narrated from Hamzah bin 'Amr that he said to the Messenger of Allah:` "I feel able to fast while traveling; is there any sin on me?" He said: "It is a concession from Allah, the mighty and sublime, so whoever accepts it has done well, and whoever wants to fast, there is no sin on him."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
In the above narration, it is explicitly established from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) that during travel, both keeping and not keeping the fast are equal. Every traveler, according to his circumstances, may act upon either of the two. If there is no hardship, then it is better and more virtuous to observe the obligatory fast, because making up (qada) later may become difficult (although not fasting is also permissible). And if there is hardship, then it is better not to fast, so that the fast does not become a source of difficulty for him or his companions. In the case of voluntary (nafl) fasts, both options are equal. This is the summary of the above narrations. In this way, all the narrations can be acted upon.
