Hadith 225

´Abu As-Samh said:` "I used to serve the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and when he wanted to perform Ghusl he said: 'Turn your back.' So I turned my back to him and concealed him."

225. Commentary:
➊ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not perform the ritual bath (ghusl) with his body uncovered; rather, he would tie a waist-wrapper (izar) and then perform the ritual bath, as is explicitly mentioned in the ahadith. Nevertheless, he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) still did not like that anyone’s gaze should fall upon the remaining uncovered part of his body. He would position the servant in such a way that neither the servant’s gaze would fall (upon him), nor anyone else’s, because that servant would serve as a screen for the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
➋ One should take care to maintain covering (hijab) while performing the ritual bath (ghusl).
➌ It is not permissible to look at the private area (‘awrah) of an adult.
