´An-Nadr bin Shaiban narrated that he met Abu Salamah bin 'Abdur-Rahman and said to him:` "Tell me of the best thing you heard about the month of Ramadan." Abu Salamah said: "Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf told me that the Messenger of Allah mentioned Ramadan and said that it is superior to other months, and he said: 'Whoever spends the nights of Ramadan in prayer (Qiyam) out of faith and in the hope of reward, he will emerge from his sins as on the day his mother bore him."'(Daif) Abu 'Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasai) said: This is a mistake, and what is correct is "Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurairah."
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
Imam al-Nasa'i rahimahullah states that the mention of 'Abdur-Rahman ibn 'Awf radi Allahu anhu in this hadith is not correct. Instead, the mention of Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu is correct. The purpose of the chapter was also to clarify the disagreement between Yahya ibn Abi Kathir and Nadr ibn Shayban: Yahya ibn Abi Kathir attributed this narration to Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu, whereas Nadr attributed it to 'Abdur-Rahman ibn 'Awf. Imam al-Nasa'i rahimahullah declared Nadr's statement to be incorrect and Yahya ibn Abi Kathir's statement to be correct. And Allah knows best.
