Hadith 2164

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ صَاحِبِ الزِّيَادِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَسَحَّرُ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّهَا بَرَكَةٌ أَعْطَاكُمُ اللَّهُ إِيَّاهَا فَلَا تَدَعُوهُ " .
´'Abdullah bin Al-Harith narrated that a man from among the Companions of th Prophet said:` "I entered upon the Prophet when he was having Sahur. He sadi: 'It is a blessing that Allah has given to you, so do not neglect it."

Explanation & Benefits

“He has granted it to you.” That is, this is a special concession for you; otherwise, the Jews and Christians are deprived of this blessing. Therefore, adopt it considering it a distinction; distinctions are not to be abandoned, so do not leave it. Suhur (pre-dawn meal) should be eaten so that there is no resemblance to the fasting of the Jews and Christians. If, out of necessity, suhur is missed, then there is no harm—for example, if one could not wake up. (For further details, see Hadith: 2146)
