´It was narrated that 'Arfajah said; 'We visited 'Utbah bin Farqad (when he was ill) and we talked about the month of Ramadan. He said; 'What are you talking about?' We said:` 'The month of Ramadan. He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: In it the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of the Fire are closed, and the devils are chained up, and a caller calls out every night: O doer of good, proceed; O doer of evil, desist!"'

Hadith Takhrij«تفرد بہ النسائي، (تحفة الأشراف: 9758) ، مسند احمد 4/311، 312، 5/411 (صحیح) (آگے آنے والی حدیث سے تقویت پاکر یہ حدیث صحیح ہے)»
Brief Explanation
1؎ : Because this is its (proper) time, as during this time even a small deed is rewarded with a great amount of reward.
2؎ : And he should repent, because this is the time for repentance.
3؎ : The reason for it being incorrect is that in this narration, ‘Arfajah has attributed it to Utbah ibn Farqad radi Allahu anhu, whereas the correct matter is that it is narrated from another Companion, as will be mentioned in the next narration, and Allah knows best.
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Imam al-Nasa’i rahimahullah’s intent is to point out that there is an error in the chain of narration (isnad) of the aforementioned report. It is not correct for Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah to narrate it from ‘Ata ibn al-Sa’ib, from ‘Irfajah, from ‘Utbah ibn Farqad, because in this manner, the narration would be counted as being from the chain of ‘Utbah ibn Farqad, whereas in reality, the matter is otherwise. This narration should be from ‘Irfajah ‘an rajulin min ashab al-nabi (from ‘Irfajah, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet), not ‘Irfajah from ‘Utbah. That is, ‘Irfajah narrates from a Companion of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
(2) “Announces.” The management of this universe is according to the command of Allah Ta’ala, and the angels implement it. Therefore, whether we hear this announcement or not makes no difference to it. When the truthful Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has informed us, then every believer should listen to this announcement with the ears of his heart.
