´'Abdullah bin Yasar said:` "I was sitting with sulaiman bin Sard and Khalid bin 'Urfutah, and they said that a man had died as a result of abdominal illness. They wanted to attend his funeral, and one of them said to the other: 'Didn't the Messenger of Allah say: Whoever is killed by an abdominal illness, he will not be punished in his grave? The other said: 'Yes.'''

Commentary in English:
By “abdominal pain” is meant any type of illness related to the abdomen, such as: diarrhea, cholera, or intestinal cancer, etc. Accidental death has been described as martyrdom (shahadah), and death due to abdominal illness has been stated as a protection from the punishment of the grave. Since these types of deaths generally cause greater shock and suffering, their reward and recompense is also greater. Some have interpreted “abdominal pain” as referring to the disease of dropsy (istisqa’), in which the patient experiences extreme thirst. He drinks plenty of water but does not feel satiated; as a result, the abdomen becomes swollen and deteriorates. Eventually, the patient is taken to Allah. May Allah protect us from severe illnesses and an evil death.
