Hadith 2009

´It was narrated that Sa'd said:` "Make a niche for me in the side of the grave and set up (bricks) over me as was done for the Messenger of Allah."

Urdu marginal note:
“Lahd” is a side niche grave in which a place for placing the deceased is made in the wall facing the qiblah. And “Shaqq” is a straight grave in which the place for placing the deceased is dug in the middle of the grave. Both methods are permissible, but lahd is better because the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Lahd is for us, and Shaqq is for others.” (Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Jana'iz, Hadith: 3208) Details will come in the relevant hadith, in sha Allah.
