´It was narrated that a man called 'Ubaidullah bin Mu'ayyah said:` "Two Muslim men were killed on the day of At-Ta'if, and they were taken to the Messenger of Allah. He commanded that they be buried where they were killed." Ibn Mu'ayyah was born during the time of the Messenger of Allah.
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) The narrator of the hadith, Ubaydullah bin Ma’iyyah, has not been established to have seen the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), therefore he should not be called a Companion (Sahabi). Rather, he was a distinguished Tabi’i (Successor). When a Tabi’i narrates directly from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), such a narration is called mursal, and a mursal narration is considered weak. However, since the subsequent hadith of Jabir supports it, meaning it serves as a corroborating narration (shahid), it is therefore authentic.
(2) It is not necessary that the deceased be buried at the exact spot where he was martyred; rather, at times this is not even possible, for example, when that place is under enemy control. Therefore, a martyr (shaheed) may be buried at a nearby location, just as the martyrs of Uhud were buried together in one place, though it is not necessary that all of them were martyred at that very spot, but rather at their respective places of martyrdom. However, it is appropriate that they be buried in the field of martyrdom or close to it, and not taken into a populated area.
(3) Generally as well, Islam does not encourage the transfer of the deceased; however, in cases of extreme necessity and compulsion, the body may be moved from the place of death.
