Hadith 198

أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً الْخُرَاسَانِيَّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ خَوْلَةَ بِنْتِ حَكِيمٍ ، قالت : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَحْتَلِمُ فِي مَنَامِهَا ، فَقَالَ : " إِذَا رَأَتِ الْمَاءَ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ " .
´It was narrated that Khawlah bin Hakim said:` "I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about a woman who has a wet dream and he said: 'If she sees water, let her perform Ghusl.'"

Commentary:
(1)
Our esteemed researcher has declared the chain of transmission of the mentioned narration to be weak, and has further written that the preceding narration (106) suffices for this, which is hasan (good). Therefore, it is understood that this narration is practicable and authoritative. Moreover, other researchers have also graded this narration as hasan due to supporting evidences.

In this issue, the ruling is the same for both men and women; that is, if the body and clothes are clean, then regardless of the type of dream seen, there is no need to perform ritual bath (ghusl).

The meaning of the child resembling the mother or the father could be that the child resembles the mother or father in appearance and form, and it could also mean that the being male or female of the offspring is related to the aforementioned matter.
