´It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:` "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, said: I have never sent down My favor to My slaves but a group of them became disbelievers who say; "The stars and by stars.'"

1525. Commentary: Attributing rain to a star in the aforementioned manner (i.e., saying "it caused the rain to fall") is an expression of disbelief (kufriyyah words). A monotheist (muwahhid) avoids uttering such words because this is not his belief, whereas the disbelievers did hold such a belief. In any case, these words are kufriyyah. However, if the rising of a star, etc., is referred to as a sign or time for the rain to fall, then these are not kufriyyah words, but it is certainly an unresearched and incorrect statement. Yes, if one attributes the rain to clouds and winds as a sign, then there is no harm in this. The ahadith and the speech of the Arabs indicate this, and these things are apparent causes for rain, unlike the stars, which have no apparent connection to rain. Moreover, this resembles the practices of star-worshippers, so it is prohibited. Another possible meaning is that among them, one group is ungrateful for it or denies it as a divine blessing (ni‘mat ilahiyyah). From this, it is incidentally understood that the use of metaphors and figurative expressions (majazat wa isti‘arat) in matters of creed (‘aqa’id) is not permissible, especially in issues such as tawhid (monotheism).
