´It was narrated that Jabir bin Samurah said:` "I sat with the Prophet (ﷺ) and I did not see him deliver the khutbah except standing, and he sat, then he stood up and delivered the second khutbah."

1416. Commentary:
➊ Two sermons (khutbahs) are Sunnah in Jumu‘ah (Friday prayer), and this is a matter of consensus. Some have made an analogy (qiyas) with the two ‘Eids (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) as well, but the preferred opinion is that there is only one sermon for the two ‘Eids. This is supported by the general narrations. The narrations mentioning two sermons are weak, and in light of the generality of the ahadith, making an analogy between the two ‘Eids and Jumu‘ah is not correct. And Allah knows best.
➋ It is established that delivering the sermon (khutbah) while standing is Sunnah. Without a valid Shar‘i (Islamic legal) excuse, delivering the sermon while sitting is not permissible.
➌ Sitting between the two sermons is Sunnah, as will be mentioned in the following hadith.
➍ The sermon should be brief, as has been mentioned previously.
