1413. Commentary:
➊ The Friday sermon (khutbah) is an act of worship, and seriousness is necessary in it. Raising both hands is contrary to seriousness; in a speech, a gesture with one hand or a finger is sufficient. Some have interpreted this as referring to raising hands for supplication (du'a) during the sermon, although in some narrations it is reported that during the Friday sermon, for supplicating for rain, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam raised his hand and the listeners raised their hands along with him. [صحیح البخاري ، الإستسقاء ، حدیث : 1029] However, it can be said that this should not be made a regular practice. If, on rare and important occasions, hands are raised, then there is no harm.
➋ One should prevent a person from doing an act contrary to the Sunnah, even if he is a person of great status, a chief, or a landlord. Among the qualities of a Muslim is that he does not fear the blame of any blamer regarding the commands of Allah.
